Superintendent election: KKBS Church Synod decides in favor of dual leadership
With a clear majority, the Synod of the Protestant Church district Berlin Stadtmitte (KKBS) decided at its meeting on Saturday, May 6, 2023 for a dual leadership in the superintendency. Silke Radosh-Hinder and Matthias Lohenner will take over the leadership of the KKBS jointly starting in September 2023. They will succeed the current superintendent Bertold Höcker, who will retire at the end of August.
The two theologians are no strangers to the KKBS: Silke Radosh-Hinder has been deputy superintendent since 2014, Matthias Lohenner works as a church pastor in Friedrichshain district and previously as a pastor for community tasks in the KKBS.
For the succession of Superintendent Bertold Höcker, only Matthias Lohenner and Silke Radosh-Hinder stood for election together as a dual leadership - a novelty in the area of the EKBO. General Superintendent Ulrike Trautwein, as head of the election commission, congratulated the two elected: "We are very happy that the synod has chosen these two highly competent and highly motivated leaders."
About the Elected Persons:
Dr. Silke Radosh-Hinder (born 1971) originally comes from the Reformed Church of Lippe in North Rhine-Westphalia and has lived in Berlin since 1995. Her activities focus on working with youth and young adults, refugees and interreligious projects and educational programs. Pastor Silke Radosh-Hinder is one of the founders of the Three Religions Kindergarten - she completed her doctorate on this project at the University of Basel in 2021.
Matthias Lohenner (born 1961) comes from the Protestant church in Westphalia and has worked as a theologian in areas such as care for the elderly, kindergarten continuing education, and work with people with disabilities. Matthias Lohenner is a systemic coach (DGfC, German Society for Coaching) and has specialized in working with mourners in his role as a pastoral counselor. He has been a pastor at the St. Markus Protestant Parish in Berlin Friedrichshain since May 2018.
