Interfaith Service for Berlin Pride

Standing Up for Love Takes Courage and Inner Strength
Standing up for love and showing it takes courage and inner strength. The interfaith service held annually on the eve of Berlin’s CSD (Christopher Street Day) at St. Mary’s Church (St. Marienkirche) aims to offer just that—strength and encouragement. For many years, people of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim faiths have come together to celebrate this special gathering.
Adding a musical highlight to the service are Bishop Vanessa M. Brown and Wyn Starks, both from the United States. Clergy from all three faiths will share in delivering the sermon. For the first time, the Catholic initiative Out in Church will also be represented. Protestant Bishop Christian Stäblein will take part in the service as well.
Cansel Kiziltepe, Berlin’s Senator for Labor, Social Affairs, Equality, Integration, Diversity, and Anti-Discrimination, is expected to attend on behalf of the Berlin Senate, along with other political and civic leaders from across the city.
During the service, Julia Helmke, Berlin’s new General Superintendent, will be officially welcomed as patron of the Protestant Church’s truck at CSD Berlin Pride on June 26, 2025
